Virginia Invasive Plant Species List

Virginia’s official list of invasive plant species is published by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. The list was updated in September 2024 and contains 103 species — 13 of these are new additions.

DCR uses an Invasive Species Assessment Protocol to conduct a risk assessment for each listed species, following NatureServe methodology.

To be included on the list, there must be demonstrable evidence that a species poses a threat to Virginia’s forests, marshes, wetlands and waterways.
