Come and learn safe and effective methods for controlling woody invasive trees, shrubs, and vines such as multiflora rose, autumn olive and Japanese honeysuckle. After this hands-on training, volunteers will spend time managing the invasive plants in the Preserve and then hopefully use these skills on their own property in the future!
Registration via Eventbrite is required, https://www.eventbrite.com/e/676289188167
Location: Fortune’s Cove Preserve, Fortune’s Cove Lane, Lovingston, VA 22949
This workshop will take place on Wednesday, August 16 from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm* and will be outside– so dress accordingly. Hats and sunscreen highly recommended!
*Stay as late as 1:00 or leave whenever you get tired…don’t feel like you should stay the whole time. We just want you to have fun and learn some invasive management techniques.
**Sorry, this event is not suitable for children under the age of 18 because we will be using herbicide.**
Please make note of the following:
– Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required to participate. No exceptions.
– We are working outside: please dress for the weather and be prepared to hike around the woods near the creek. Rugged gear that can stand up to working around thorny multiflora rose would be helpful.
– Please bring water and snacks, sunscreen, and bug repellent.
– Participants will be working with herbicides and sharp tools. Personal protective equipment will be provided. However, if you have work gloves and/or eye protection, please bring them. We will go over specific protocols for the safe use of herbicides.
– Blue Ridge PRISM reserves the right to cancel the event in the case of inclement weather or if there are insufficient registration numbers. If you find that you cannot attend, please be kind enough to let us know at least 48 hours in advance.
